I watch the water worn groynes
make the zigzag sea break
grey haze rolls on dull tide
cold air finger ache
stuffed fist bundle of flesh
blood hot in cosy pocket
walk at the wash
motion and memory interlocking.
I watch two bulldogs collide on the promenade
leads intertwining a pup and an elder
the Puppy goes down belly flat
and the Elder grins playful and tender
paw and whine
sniff and lick of canine transfer
the elder whispers to the pup
secrets learned with time.
I watch seagull beak stained red with ketchup
interlocking memory and motion
the water
dead still
on this small drop of ocean.
